The FAA Follies

All the FAA madness we could fit!

Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump…

Posted by Paul Cox on September 16th, 2009

That sound you hear is John J Tormey, an attorney and advocate for the group Quiet Rockland, beating the stuffing out of the FAA’s COO Hank Krakowski.

Quiet Rockland is a group that’s dedicated to fighting the FAA’s actions to restructure airspace and routes in and around Rockland County, which is back east near New York City. Like so many groups, they aren’t crazy about plans that promise more airplane noise over their heads.

I know this isn’t necessarily a cause that will light up the hearts of many FAA employees; we often tend to think “well, noise just goes with airplanes”.

But what John, and Quiet Rockland, have learned is that there’s far too many FAA employees who will ignore the rules and regulations and laws when it comes to doing these types of changes. They’re learning that the FAA, as an organization, tends to decide first and then justify their decision later only if they’re challenged. They’re learning that many FAA managers are basically lying scumbags who are too lazy to actually do their work correctly.

(Please note- not ALL of the FAA’s managers are like that. And I still firmly believe that the vast majority of our agency’s employees do a pretty good day’s work for their pay. They earn it fair and square.)

John has been digging into the past of Hank Krakowski. Some time back, he emailed me about a crash that killed a fellow pilot in a aerobatic performance flying group that Krakowski was involved with, and John said “wait until you see some of the stuff I’m going to publish about this”.

Well, here you go. John pretty well tears Hank apart.

Now, I wasn’t there. I don’t know what happened and I haven’t read through all the transcripts of the depositions and legal filings and whatnot. But John Tormey has, and he’s bringing it to light on a regular basis.

It’s good to know that there’s brave, honest souls out there like John, fighting against the excesses of the FAA and trying to keep our agency honest. Give ‘em hell, John!

I go to the web site of John J Tormey III everyday to stay on top of the latest news over at the FAA.

  2. John J. Tormey III, Esq. Says:

Thank you. Please keep reading the blogs. I promise you there’s more coming. I pulled about 3,500 pages from the Illinois court file on Evans v. Krakowski, UAL, Lima Lima et al. I will continue to upload Hank material to the blogs from that court file, throughout the Fall. You will be angered when you read how Hank evaded liability in that wrongful death civil litigation. I also ask that, whatever your faith, you please consider saying a prayer for the late Keith Evans and his family who, like us, never deserved to be victims of Hank Krakowski and Hank’s recidivist corrupt aeromercantalism.

  3. Nice try Says:

He was killed practicing? That doesn’t seem to be against policy. If you need to be current on the routine to practice, they could never get new pilots or change the routine. I assume Mr Evans was a grown up and able to make his own choices. Tragic, but his choice to make.

Stick with the lying charge. That seems to be a slam dunk.

  4. John J. Tormey III, Esq. Says:

As you know from the 2 posted deposition transcripts and corresponding blog-posts, Hank Krakowski was Lima Lima’s “Safety Officer” and had been with the flight team for about 5 years – Decedent Keith J. Evans, on the other hand, a year or less. By his own admission, short-staffed stunt “Safety Officer” and self-titled “Edgeman” Hank Krakowski caused, allowed or suffered: (1) a material late change to the stunt-routine, already knowing Evans was under-practiced and under-prepared; and (2) a skipped practice for which Hank points blame elsewhere, even though Hank was the “Safety Officer”; and (3) an evening-sky last practice whereby planes were only visible in silhouette – including to Evans. Admittedly nearsighted by the time of his 2002 deposition, Hank was in the #4 slot in the 1999 fatal stunt, directly following the crashed planes. Hank testified that he took a radio call and averted his eyes from his flight path at or immediately prior to the moment of impact. With all due respect, “Nice Try”, both barrels work.

-5:45 PM, Wednesday: Someone just created a Wikizine for Hank Krakowski, perhaps Hank himself, or perhaps FAA trying to “rehabilitate” Hank:

    http://www.zimbio.com/Hank+Krakowski

-You’ll recognize the links in its “Links” section.

-Please consider posting your own take on Hank, to this board, AND to the Wikizine, which is also fully interactive.

  6. Thomas Sullivan - Quiet Rockland Says:

Randy Babbitt needs to begin the clean-up of the FAA Mgt ASAP. He needs to start by firing the failed legacy cases of Hank Krakowski and Jim Peters. These inept individuals have already proven themselves incapable of performing in their current roles. How many scandals can an agency have before the new management decides to clean house.
If these two “stains” from previous failed blakey/sturgell administration are allowed to linger further, how will the FAA ever regain credibility with the american people.

RANDY, IT IS TIME TO CLEAN HOUSE !

  7. AS @ SCT Says:

Agree with Thomas S. Clean a little house.

I would have fired the Bush appointee Krank as my first personell move. Cleanse away the remaining stench from the Bush Blakey years.

My guess is RB will take about the same amount of time(15 months)as Gravey did, to get the changes enacted he’s looking for.

  8. farmingdale Says:

We are all waiting for the “NEW” FAA management to clean house. Sabatini and Ballough are the real bad guys, but the FAA swept them under the rug …..retirement or else! good choice boys run with your pensions while you can……the boys still have to answer about some innocent people being killed in air crashes because of “LACK OF FAA OVERSIGHT” another diffusing term by NTSB….yes the NEW FAA AND THE NEW DOT are going to fix the problems….? mean while, John Allen and the rest of the SABTINI hangovers are still there covering up problems and “misleading” the new management (maybe the new management is not as stupid as the boys think they are?……Maybe!)

  9. FAAGuy Says:

This is why I think anonymity is best for debates over the Internet. I can understand people having policy disagreements with government agencies. I have them myself, but in my opinion, personalizing that disagreement by attacking the decision makers is not the way to win the argument. I think that people should win the argument on facts and reason, not by Photoshoping the decision maker’s picture into something it’s not.

  10. John J. Tormey III, Esq. Says:

That’s exactly what I would expect the bravely anonymous “FAAG[uy]“, a/k/a Steven Ray Kelley, to say.

Maybe next time “FAAG[uy]” will actually READ the deposition transcripts. You can’t get more facts and reason than in the sworn testimony of Hank’s I posted as “.jpegs” to the Internet. Enjoy your anonymity – Steven.

The depth of that last analysis could only mean one thing.

    Thanks, Paris Hilton, for weighing-in.

  14. John J. Tormey III, Esq. Says:

…And I know that you still have no idea how to spell “desparate”[sic], Ventris. Maybe there’s still time for you to edit Post #11, though. Good luck with that.

While FAA management continues its pathetic attempts at downward-spiral spin-control, including posts to this blog, 4 more sets of Hank Krakowski wrongful death court documents, with commentary, are now uploaded:

  18. zabnut Says:

Not really. Look at what you typed, its bigotry. That is the point that comes across loud and clear. You say “you people” like you are something better than I am or the rest of us. Many people toss back another derogatory term and call people LIKE YOU REDNECKS, I will just call you ignorant and leave it at that.

You lost the battle, the election is over, now go tune into Fox and get some “Lernin” done and have them tell you what to think.

  19. Nice try Says:

“Lighten up, Francis”….I think “you people” refers to any and all who listen to the rants of JT3. Just because You don’t care for some people, doesn’t make you a bigot.

  20. Republican Says:

Scream, whine, attack,……..and when it doesn’t work you pull out the race card and call everybody a racist. Typical

Tormey your an idiot, and I hope the new flight path fly’s directly over your house.

  21. Vector Says:

Hey Republican, before you call somebody else an idiot you should learn the difference between your and you’re and flies and flys.

    Moron.

  22. zabnut Says:

    Nice Try,

I will be as polite as I can. Putting people of any class, profession, religion or race in a box and saying they all are bad or in this case lowest form of life is bigotry, look it up in a dictionary.

This quote, “I really can’t believe that you people would put stock in anything that the lowest life form known to man [lawyers]” Is from a BIGOT.

Republican, Learn the difference from being a racist and a bigot (I will give you a hint racism is a FORM of bigotry, the two are not necessarily interchangeable. ie IF you see one doesn’t mean you can switch it to the other like Fox snews does to make your point) Go back to school, stop watching Fox and learn something about the english language. Nobody brought up the race card you idiot, except you in order to sensationalize your point. Your point is well taken, you can’t spell and you don’t know what you are talking about, you can’t read and you don’t comprehend what your mommy obviously had to read to you.

  23. Paul Cox Says:

I’ll jump in here to say two things.

First, I know who “FAAGuy” is, and his name is not Steve.

Second, he’s not a bad guy. He disagrees with some stuff, he agrees with other stuff, but he’s fair and supportive and gives a damn enough that he reads this site and actually participates- which places him above about 95% of the rest of the FAA’s managers in my book.

I think some of you guys are confusing “FAAGuy” with that dude who used to post here “Me”. “Me” was pretty much a jackass and quit posting after he kept getting trashed in the comments section.

  24. Thomas Sullivan - Quiet Rockland Says:

I think some who may disagree with JT3 are getting somewhat side tracked. It really doesn’t matter what you feel about John or lawyers or anyone else.

The point is that the FAA Mgmt is still filled with incompentent morons who feel it is ok to tromp over peoples rights so they can eventually take an FAA golden parachute and float safely into the arms of the companies they were supposed to regulate.

Surely these Sturgell/Blakey holdovers would best be purged from the halls of the FAA, lest the infectious stench of corruption be permitted to put us all at risk.

If you feel that your rights have been violated and you have the guts to take action, take a look at some of John’s blogs and “Watch and Learn” how it should be done when it comes to fighting FAA Mgmt tyranny.

  25. farmingdale Says:

It is to everyone’s advantage for the new DOT and FAA management to clean house and appoint new upper management. Get them all out and start anew!…….they are leftovers rotting in the refrigerator ….covering-up problems instead of fixing the problems…..whether it be ATC issues or flight standards.

The boys would never have anyone working for the FAA that is too smart or would not blindly take orders no matter what they were. Drinking the kool-aid it is called….if there is to be change then clean out the rot and and go forward!

  26. Um Says:

Personal attacks and bigotry (surprised that someone jumped on someone using the phrase “you people” in the context it was used in and not calling someone “FAAG” as an insult) do not help prove your case. Even though you clearly don’t agree with him, you could learn something by analyzing the measured responses of FAAGuy as opposed to the histrionics and personal attacks I see in this thread.

  27. John J. Tormey III, Esq. Says:

That’s gibberish. The anonymous coward uses a self-imposed fake screen name “FAAGuy”, rather than having the courage to identify himself. That’s exactly what the country has come to expect from Blakey/Sturgell vestiges. Blogs in cowardice. Fear of light. “Measured responses” of an anonymous coward? You’re deluding yourself. (Hank).

    Next Up:
Please stay tuned for more “.jpeg’s” of the NTSB Report. The report continues to chastise Hank Krakowski for averting his eyes from the plane he was following. The report also blames the death of Keith J. Evans on the Lima Lima Stunt Team’s failure to have a responsive procedure for a botched maneuver. Hank was Lima Lima’s “Safety Officer” [although Hank lied and denied it under oath]. Hank Krakowski was therefore blamed for the death by NTSB. Hank then became FAA COO and Head of Air Traffic Organization. As of 7 days ago, every single staffer in Congress now knows it was the same guy. Some hide from the light in anonymity and fear. Others shine it.
